I hear from so many that they struggle with taking risks and creating the life and business that their soul so desperately calls them to.   Can you relate?

D E N I A L.

Yep, denying ourselves. Denying reality. Denying our truth.  Denying our hearts! Or even more deceptive is using our gift of vision and imagination to deny difficult, often painful truths and emotions. 

I know, I did this too,  it was an old coping mechanism my subconscious created in childhood and I still have to watch every day for the areas in my life that I don't want to see, the little voices within that I don't want to hear, the pain that I don't want to feel.  The action that I don't feel like taking because it may be uncomfortable or out of my comfort zone.

The reality is denial costs us big time. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to suppress aspects of our experience; to repress feelings, look the other way, cope with numbing ourselves with drugs, alcohol and other addictions like co+dependency (obsessing over others rather than focusing on our own life experience and what we can control).  Truthfully, I have done all of these. It is culturally acceptable some may say. Although some of this is learned behavior, it is also our opportunity to evolve beyond it if we want to live in our full potential. 

Are you living with Denial?

Are you denying that your mother may be an alcoholic?

Your partner cheating on you?

The job  or relationship your so attached you, actually draining your energy and bank account, giving you a false sense of security?

Denial is actually a form of self-abuse. When we deny ourselves, our needs, our boundaries, our authenticity, our inner voice, our reality, we suffer greatly. And so do those around us.  Our relationships suffer. Our creativity gets blocked and our health declines.

So why are so many of us living in denial?  Because we don't want to feel our feelings. And typically shame is the emotion we deny ourselves from feeling and it keeps us stuck in a cycle of coping and denial. Trapped emotion from early childhood trauma blocks us from living a full life. But its a lie.  We actually create more pain for ourselves ( and therefore more coping strategies) than actually feeling the perceived unwanted feelings!

Honestly I believe it is most of us. Denial is a form of resistance.  And we know from psychologist Carl Jung, that what we resist persists.  And I believe, what we accept transforms.  This includes being present to our most uncomfortable feels and truths about our reality. Denial is a coping mechanism to avoid feeling and facing the truth.

So ask yourself...

What are you not wanting to see about the truth of your life?

Listen to your heart and let the soft voice of your inner being gently show you where you have been unavailable to yourself.  Trust that just by the act of choosing to be available to your deeper knowing, you will be ready to face and address what next steps need to be taken and give yourself space to feel what repressed feelings need to be felt. 

When we deny our pain, we are denying our capacity for great joy, meaning and fulfillment.  This is why I love expressive painting because it is an easy fun, quick way to express the fullness of our whole-selves and strengthen the intuitive voice within that is always available to guide us in our life and business, every step of the way.
