Trust your GUT!

Published: Tue, 03/15/16

Greetings

As I grow closer to my due date, trusting my gut has never been more a more potent medicine.  Learning to be in my body, trust my feelings, my boundaries, while expressing the transformation into Motherhood and preparing for this little being growing inside me has been quite a powerful journey!

What a better way to embody this wisdom in creative ritual,  collaborating with one of my favorite island artists, Traeger DiPietro and photographer Eli Dagastino in celebrating this pregnant belly and The Art of Motherhood.  It has been a profound experience of trusting the creative process and allowing what wants to express itself through me.

Stay tuned for more on this powerful creative rite of passage into Motherhood.

TRUST YOUR GUT.
You have heard the phrase a gazillion times, I know. Everyone is talking about how important...and crucial it is to trust our intuition, our center, or core feelings.

But it is hard to do this when we are not in our bodies.  It is hard to do this when we have been conditioned to not trust ourselves, our own feelings, our body knowing and wisdom.  And now holistic health research is showing us that our guts, our digestive systems are the centers for our wellbeing.  Gut health is all the craze.

And it makes sense, when we align with what is best for our gut, we align with our deepest truth and we allow the body, mind and spirit to heal itself.

The body knows!

Below is some great GUT wisdom from my friend and co+creator local island chef and food as medicine maven, Jan Burhman:

Trust Your Gut:  Eat for Gut Health! by Jan Buhrman, The Kitchen Porch

But seriously, the gut is the center of the digestive system and the hub for staying healthy. It all starts with your gut.

Here is a link to a daily diet that is great for your gut.

If your gut isn’t happy, your health is compromised. Imbalances or disturbances of the gut microbes can lead to a wide range of ills, including obesity, inflammatory bowel diseases, depression and anxiety.

Research links connection between gut bacteria and many other aspect of human health. The conclusion is clear: if you can change your gut, you can change your life.

*Quick Tip: Here is an article on Chris Kessler’s web site that explains the health of the gut. Why probiotics are important and why feeding the gut is just as important as feeding the probiotics.

** More on Gut Health - Mark Hyman explains how optimal gut balance begins with your diet, which directly affects that balance. You want to eat a diet with lots of fiber, healthy protein, and healthy fats.

We will be eating foods that contribute to gut health and learning why in ‘Eat, Paint, Love Your Body’. We will be eating fermented vegetables, resistant starches and a plate of beautiful foods, all to keep your gut healthy.

  • Nourish Your Gut: How do you nourish your gut?
  • How do we nourish ourselves?
  • How do we trust our body knowing?

Join us as we explore these questions and more at ‘Eat Paint Love Your Body’ and of course we will be painting, eating and cooking from our gut...

Praise for Eat Paint Love your Body

“Exploring my creative side beyond my own imposed boundaries was scary but I embraced the challenge. It was a challenge for me to allow myself the opportunity for this type of self exploration.   Attending Eat, Paint, Love Your Body was an incredible, fulfilling experience.  I am so glad I did it and look forward to attending this next event that explores Food & Art as Nourishment!  Jan and Melissa have created a safe, fun, welcoming approach to exploring your creative side through food and art.  It was fantastic!”
