The Difference Between a Job, a Career... and a Calling.

A job is a paycheck.  It is your time and energy in exchange for money.  A job is limited in terms of income, yet you can usually leave it when you go home, without taking on a ton of responsibility.

A career is a consistent job path in a particular field.  As you climb up the ladder of skill and experience your pay increases along with certain responsibilities. 

A calling is a passion, it is an inner stirring that relentlessly beckons your heart and soul to get up every day and keeping going, even when the going is tough.  It is full of responsibilities and personal growth. You never get bored or tired of your calling, it is always fueled by your heart and your connection to the world, to making a difference.   It is your greatest purpose in life and leads you toward fulfilling your highest potential.

There is no shame in either one, and one often leads to the other.

However, and this I know-- as I have had all three, the well of eternal happiness and fulfillment will be discovered once you answer the call of your heart.

Now it may sound cliche, the territory of the heart is.not.safe.  Its not a straight line.  It is a journey into the unknown.  Its where faith grows.  You learn to believe in yourself, a higher power.  You must be creative, resourceful, confident, self-actualizing or... die.

There are peaks and valleys, 'mistakes' and 'failures' along the way, all with the great joy and fulfillment of your heart...and success as you define it.  It allows you to line up your personal values with your daily actions and this is where great personal integrity exists and is lived.
